Vitrelis is our word for essence.
FROM MATTER
TO MEANING.
Glass becomes object.
Object becomes presence.
Presence becomes personal.
Vitrelis grew from years spent working glass—long enough to understand that the material cannot simply be told what to become.
Sometimes the work is in knowing what to remove.
Sometimes it is in knowing when to stop.
And sometimes something already present becomes visible only when the familiar light recedes.
The material
Dichroic glass does not hold a single appearance.
Light moves across it. Color shifts. Depth appears and disappears. What is visible from one angle may recede from another.
The material changes according to where the light falls—and where you stand.
Light reveals the surface.
Shadow reveals its depth.
The revelation
The glass is fused into a single body.
Then we cut.
We facet.
We remove.
Edges emerge. Planes catch light. Portions that were hidden inside the original form are exposed.
The composition is discovered through removal rather than added through decoration.
The result is not manufactured.
It is revealed.
Terminus ad Quem
Heat.
Fracture.
Friction.
Patience.
Light.
The marks of transformation remain.
Not as flaws to conceal, but as part of what brought the object to this particular form.
Terminus ad Quem.
That toward which.
Not an ending.
A point of becoming.
The object enters a life
We can choose the material.
We can fuse it, cut it, facet it, and bring its form into view.
Then our part ends.
The piece leaves our hands and enters someone else's life.
What it comes to represent cannot be decided here.
The piece is our interpretation.
The story is yours.
MADE TO BECOME.
